Jimmie Johnson
You don't have to be a basketball fan to know that Michael Jordan led the Chicago Bulls to three consecutive NBA championships. Even those who never watch football remember Tom Brady and his New England Patriots winning three Super Bowls in four years. It takes a lot to win a championship in professional sports. It takes even more to stay at the top of the game for consecutive years.
So, it is a little bit troubling that Jimmie Johnson has gotten so little recognition outside of NASCAR circles. He has accomplished a feat never before seen in NASCAR and virtually unheard of in any professional sport. He has won the championship not...
Compressed Air Cars
Forget about hybrids and electric cars. The next evolution in automotive technology may be the compressed air car.
The CityCAT is a vehicle developed by Motor Development International (MDI). The Indian automaker claims that the CityCAT will run on air with 0 (that's zero) emissions.
MDI manufactured a whopping eleven CityCATs for evaluation purposes. The next step, they say, is to produce a line of cars that are actually comfortable and drivable. Their website boasts a range of models in one stage of production or another (mostly another - meaning they're still in the concept stage). The...
Danica Patrick
I first reported on this site back in October that Danica Patrick was in talks to sign with Dale Earnhardt Jr. to enter into NASCAR on a limited basis. This past week, they finally made it official. Next week, Danica will make her NASCAR debut at Daytona - sort of. It's just a test run. She won't race until February when she'll take the wheel in an official NASCAR event for the first time.
The plan is for her to drive for Junior before and after her Indy car season, which runs from March through October. It will be interesting...
Electric Cars
There are a slew of electric cars from the gamut of automakers around the world set to hit the market in the next two years. This confluence of electric offerings got me thinking. How and why is this all coming together now? The way I see it, there are four possibilities.
1. The various automakers have been trying their darndest for the last twenty years to develop electric cars but just recently has technology developed to the point to make them technologically and economically feasible. This is possible, except that there isn't anything going into these electric models that...
All Time Greatest TV Cars
Throughout the years, TV has brought us some shows with great cars. Here are a few of the very best.
#6 The Batmobile. The open cockpit, the parachutes instead of brakes, the superfluous smoke stacks - this car screamed "Mysterious Dark Knight Detective".
#5 Starsky and Hutch's Gran Torino. Fast, cool, virtually indestructible, and a real chick magnet, this car was all the rage from 1975 though 1979.
#4 The truck from BJ and the Bear. I think it was a Kenworth K100. Whatever it was, it was awesome. To be fair, the truck itself was nothing special, but it was a...
