Goodies Fast Pain Relief 500

March 30, 2010— by Ronald A. Rowe
NASCAR
Sunday wasn't a good day for anyone associated with NASCAR. Torrential rains delayed the race, frustrating drivers, disappointing fans, and thoroughly messing with the schedule of intrepid reporters everywhere.  Did you know that you can't take the day off just because a Sprint Cup race was postponed until Monday?  You can be sure that I'll be writing to my congressman about that oversight. Monday was a great day for Ford.  Not the automaker.  That Ford saw no one finish higher than 8th in Monday's belated running of the Goodies Fast Pain Relief 500 at Martinsville. No, it was Mike Ford, Denny...

Food City 500

March 23, 2010— by Ronald A. Rowe
NASCAR
Jimmie Johnson won... again. Woo...hoo? After Kurt Busch dominated the Food City 500, Jimmie Johnson pulled off a brilliant bit of driving as he navigated through a packed restart with ten laps to go to win the race at Bristol.  The stories of the race were the weather, Kurt Busch, and crash after crash after crash. The weather directly caused over twenty caution laps and indirectly caused many more by contributing to the crash-fest.  The skies over Bristol (which is what everyone will continue to call this race regardless of what the corporate sponsors say or do or spend) were cloudy...

NASCAR News

NASCAR
The bad news is that this was an off week for NASCAR racing. The good news is that the week is over, and we're less than seven days away from the big race at Bristol.  But a week without racing was not a week without any news from the NASCAR circuit. Carl Edwards is serving a three race probation for violently wrecking Brad Keselowski last Sunday.  As I understand it, probation basically means that he can't break any rules for the next three weeks.  Which amounts to roughly no punishment for intentionally ramming and flipping a car at 190 mph...

Kobalt Tools 500

March 9, 2010— by Ronald A. Rowe
NASCAR
OK, let's just get these two things out of the way at the outset so we can get on with the main story. #1 Jimmie Johnson didn't win the Kobalt Tools 500. Hooray for the other guy, who in this case was Kurt Busch. #2 Scott Speed didn't win either, but he had a shot. He's due any week now. Now that I've got my weekly Johnson & Speed comments out of the way, the Kobalt Tools 500 was really something, wasn't it? Kurt Busch won the second race in Atlanta in a row. Maybe...

Shelby American 400

March 2, 2010— by Ronald A. Rowe
NASCAR
Jimmie Johnson won the Shelby American 400 in Las Vegas this weekend. Yep, Jimmie Johnson.  Again. By the time Jimmie Johnson and the number 48 car won his 49th race, the Canadians had put the American hockey team on ice, and the day's sweep of sport's disappointment was complete. Not to belabor the point I made just last week, but come on. NASCAR fans want to see Jimmie Johnson win another Sprint Cup like baseball fans want to see the Yankees win another World Series or PGA fans want to see Tiger Woods bed another Denny's waitress.  It's been done. Johnson's victory...
