The Autism Speaks 400? Really? I’m all for medical research and finding a cure for bad stuff. I’m OK with NFL and MLB players wearing pink shoes to cure breast cancer (although I have to admit I’m a little unclear on how that actually helps). But the Autism Speaks 400? That’s really what we’re calling the Dover International these days?
In reality, it is even worse. The event’s official name is: The Autism Speaks 400 presented by Hershey’s Milk and Milkshakes. Just being presented by Hershey’s wasn’t enough. No, you might confuse it with Hershey’s Kisses. This is presented by the milk and milkshake people at Hershey’s.
Anyway, you know I love to see Jimmie Johnson lose a race from time to time. The only thing better is to see him lose a race because he commits a bone head penalty in pit row with 35 laps to go. Not only did Johnson lose the race, the dropped two more points in the Sprint Cup standings. Dover winner Kyle Busch and third place Matt Kenseth double leap frogged Johnson to grab the #2 and #3 positions in the standings. Kevin Harvick, who placed seventh, retains the number one spot for the second week in a row.
Without Johnson, the see-saw, tug-of-war, back-and-forth thing just fell apart. Busch cruised the rest of the way, winning by more than seven seconds over the distant Jeff Burton. A whole afternoon of work at 200 mph undone by a few seconds doing forty on pit row. The speed limit there is 35 mph.
