One trend that has been around for some time now is that of the box car, the many various square-shaped autos that cruise the roads. Some more specific model examples include the Xion XB, the Mini Cooper, Chevy HHR, Honda Element and the newly announced Nissan Cube.
The Nissan Cube is no newcomer to the world of square autos, however. It has been in production for the last ten years in Japan. Nissan is now shifting gears and planning a release in the United States.

In the future, cars will glide through the air powered by small turbo engines. Traffic will no longer exist on the ground, except for what's left of many small wheel transportation vehicles. Since we don't really know the design automobiles will take in the future, we only can speculate. Aptera, an independent auto company, has taken the forefront of the futuristic venture and developed the Aptera type-1 (2e).

Here’s a big tidbit of news that is somewhat promising to you consumers out there. Nissan is currently producing and planning to release a completely electricity operated automobile by 2010. The auto will be powered completely by lithium-ion rechargeable batteries (24 cells; 4 batteries each), and will take about eight hours total for a complete recharge. The auto is speculated to have a daily mileage range of 100 miles and a top speed of 75 miles per hour.

In a recent article, I noted that Mini had the biggest increase in sales for the month of March. Now, there is more news that more car purchases are based on gas economy with an increase in the amount of hybrid vehicles purchased.
According to R.L. Polk & Co., hybrid vehicle sales increased by 38 percent in 2007. While hybrid sales account for less than 3 percent of total auto sales in the U.S., that is still a significant increase.
With more hybrid styles being offered through different manufacturers, it seems that hybrid sales should continue to rise.
