NASCAR officially crowned a new champion this week. Unlike most sports, where the victorious team heads to their hometown for a victory celebration, NASCAR packs up the whole bunch - winners and losers - and carts them off to Las Vegas for a week-long party of back-patting and adulation. From the looks of it, new champ Tony Stewart didn't mind one bit.
Between the congratulations, acclamations, and attempts to enter Stewart into Sainthood, NASCAR Nation did manage to send a few lauds in the direction of Nationwide Series champ Ricky Stenhouse Jr, who won his first title this year.

NASCAR Profile: Carl Edwards
December 1st, 2011 - by Ronald A. Rowe | Driver Profiles, NASCAR, Sprint Cup Series
Carl Edwards is 32 years old. He is the son of Mike Edwards (actually Carl Michael Edwards I) who was a fine driver in his own right on the midget and modified stock car circuits in the Midwest. As of this writing, Carl II’s career earnings have topped $52 Million.
Edwards started his NASCAR career in 2001 on the Craftsman Truck Series. After just partial seasons, he joined Rousch Racing for a full year in 2003. He went on to win 3 races and Rookie of the Year honors in that season.

The Offseason Begins with a Bang

This week in NASCAR, Kurt Busch's obscenity-filled tirade during last week's Sprint Cup finale made its way to Youtube, giving legs to what would otherwise have been a non-issue. But once something like that is out there, you just can't take it back. NASCAR, embarrassed by his tirade and already running thin on patience for the Busch brothers' hijinx, fined Busch $50,000.
Busch released an apology. NASCAR released a statement. Penske, Busch's team, released a different statement. His sponsors, Shell and Penzoil, released a statement of their own. None of them offered anything like a defense of

Not rain, not dark of night, not long boring delays filled with inane talking head chatter, could keep Tony Stewart from his appointed destiny – winning the 2011 Sprint Cup Championship. Unlike Saturday’s Nationwide finale, in which the championship was decided long before the final lap was run, Sunday’s Sprint Cup race kept us wondering right up until the end.
Amazing what a little motivation and a few friends will do for a driver. There was little doubt all day and night that Stewart and Carl Edwards were the two best drivers, with the two best cars, on this particular

There can be only one winner in any given race. Usually. But Saturday at the Homestead-Miami Speedway there were several who could qualify for that title.
First off, the literal winner of the Ford 300 was Brad Keselowski. A year after winning the Nationwide Championship, the now-ineligible Keselowski won the final race of the season in a thrilling finish with a hard-charging Ricky Stenhouse Jr. right behind.
The dramatic finish belied the fact that the bigger issue, that of the Nationwide Series Championship, was settled far earlier in the race. Stenhouse basically had to not wreck in the early goings in
