Feed the Children 300

by Ronald A. Rowe July 12th, 2011 | NASCAR, Nationwide Series, Racing News
Brad Keselowski won on a Sprint Cup race a month ago, but until Friday night he hadn't won on the lesser circuit this year. That dearth came to an end with the Feed the Children 300. Kevin Harvick finished second, and Kyle Busch - who won the Truck Series the day before and Sprint Cup Series the day after - finished third. Kasey Kahne came in fourth.

Five was the magic number for the Nationwide Series drivers. Elliot Sadler, who started on the pole, finished fifth overall and first among all Nationwide eligible drivers. That

Subway Jalapeño 250

by Ronald A. Rowe July 7th, 2011 | NASCAR, Nationwide Series
The first 99 laps of the 100 lap Subway Jalapeño 250 were an ugly, wreck-filled affair. The final lap was carnage, brilliance, and a four one-hundredths of a second victory for Joey Logano. Logano, who had not lead a single lap all day, took the lead when it counted on the last half of the last lap of the race. Just as he took the lead, bedlam broke out behind him as Danica Patrick, Tony Stewart, Elliot Sadler, and others created what Patrick would later call a ‘cluster’ – a pleasant way to describe the 200 MPH pile up

Road America

by Ronald A. Rowe June 28th, 2011 | NASCAR, Nationwide Series
If the Nationwide Series is the equivalent of Minor League Baseball, then Road America is like watching a minor league baseball team playing against a team from Japan. All the drivers you know are there, plus a whole crew of foreigners you’ve never heard of.

Michael McDowell (pictured) had the race won. With five laps to go he was so far out in front that the runners-up could barely see his “Eat My Crust” bumper. The only thing that could possibly prevent him from winning was a wreck, which Doug Harrington so obligingly provided by running through one

Alliance Truck Parts 250

by Ronald A. Rowe June 23rd, 2011 | NASCAR, Nationwide Series
Mean old Carl Edwards. Edwards was in second place with 10 laps to go at the Alliance Truck Parts 250. He was behind only teammate and actual Nationwide Series contender Ricky Stenhouse, Jr.

I kind of expected him to do some defensive driving and keep the rest of the pack at bay. Something like Cal Noughton, Jr. in Talladega Nights - you know, selflessly just do whatever it takes to make sure your teammate wins. But that didn't happen.

Instead, Edwards brutalized Stenhouse on a skillful yet dangerously close pass and took the race for himself.

STP 300

by Ronald A. Rowe June 7th, 2011 | NASCAR, Nationwide Series
The end of the STP 300 was strangely familiar to anyone who watched last week's Coca-Cola 600, with a car again running out of gas on the final turn or the final lap. Unlike last week's Sprint Cup race, this week had a happy ending for the driver of that fuel-less car.

Of course that driver, Justin Allgaier, only had a shot because the car that had been in front of him ran out of gas a quarter lap earlier. Carl Edwards had the race won, but he ran out of gas with half a lap to go.
