With nothing happening in NASCAR this week, let’s take a look at our sister sport, IndyCar racing. The tragic death of Dan Wheldon rocked the entire IndyCar world to its core. The crash that killed the two-time Indianapolis 500 winner at Las Vegas last year sent ripples through the sport that are still being felt. Beyond the shock and mourning, the investigation into Wheldon’s death pushed back the normal business of setting the schedule for the 2012 season.
Even now that the schedule has belatedly been released, it is incomplete. Izod, the chief sponsor of the IndyCar title, mandates a minimum

The Loopies
December 15th, 2011 - by Ronald A. Rowe | NASCAR, Racing News, Sprint Cup Series
It's that time of year again - time for NASCAR to hand out out the Loopie Awards. In the most self-congratulatory awards on the planet, NASCAR celebrates itself more than anything else with the annual Loopies. In case you missed the previous four Loopie Awards, the communications department of NASCAR scours the Loop Data each year to come up with the best and worst of the sport.
According to an official NASCAR press release on NASCAR's official NASCAR site, NASCAR.com, NASCAR amazingly won the "Still The Most Awesome Sport Ever" Award. What a shocker! Who would have seen that one

This week in NASCAR, Kurt Busch's obscenity-filled tirade during last week's Sprint Cup finale made its way to Youtube, giving legs to what would otherwise have been a non-issue. But once something like that is out there, you just can't take it back. NASCAR, embarrassed by his tirade and already running thin on patience for the Busch brothers' hijinx, fined Busch $50,000.
Busch released an apology. NASCAR released a statement. Penske, Busch's team, released a different statement. His sponsors, Shell and Penzoil, released a statement of their own. None of them offered anything like a defense of

Zippo 200 at the Glen

Everyone expected to see Jimmie Johnson against Kurt Busch this weekend, but not exactly like this. Kurt Busch, driving the injured Brad Keselowski's #22 car, edged out a faster Jimmie Johnson - who suffered greatly for a pit-road speeding penalty - in the number 7.
Busch started on the pole, lost it to little brother Kyle for much of the race, and retook it for the last 4 laps to claim the Zippo 200 at the Glen. Kyle looked like he would win the brotherly-rivalry but low gas forced him to pit on green, ceding the lead to big brother

“All [Ricky Stenhouse, Jr.] has to do is negotiate two more turns…” The words were still hanging in the air as Stenhouse charged toward the finish line at Iowa with an insurmountable lead. All he had to do was not crash. Two more left turns. One more. Just as long as his engine doesn’t blow up…
But in an ending that more closely resembled a Hollywood movie than any NASCAR race I’ve ever seen before his engine did blow up. More James Bond than Dale Earnhardt, Stenhouse’s car sprayed smoke and oil from the rear as he slowed. A charging
