Nascar Profile: Martin Truex Jr

by Ronald A. Rowe April 5th, 2012 | Driver Profiles, NASCAR
Martin Truex Jr. began his racing career on the Kart circuit at age 11.  By 18 he was driving modifieds.  In his early twenties he joined NASCAR and spent two seasons on the Nationwide Series.  Two seasons, and two championships, later, he was ready to move on to the Cup Series full-time.

His first full year on the Cup Series, Truex finished a respectable 19th in points.  He improved to 11th in his sophomore season, his best year to date.  That year he won his first race and made his only Chase appearance so far.

In the three years since, Truex

2012 Daytona 500

by Ronald A. Rowe March 1st, 2012 | NASCAR, Sprint Cup Series
The 2012 Daytona 500 started late, ended later, and provided some real surprises along the way. Here are some of the highlights I noticed along the way.

Lap 2: Well, that didn’t take long. Actually, it took a day and a half longer than we expected to see the first wreck of the Daytona 500. But no one thought that Jimmie Johnson and Danica Patrick would both be back in the garage within sixty seconds of the white flag.

Drive4COPD 300

by Ronald A. Rowe February 28th, 2012 | NASCAR, Nationwide Series

After a brutally long 99-day layoff and one preseason event, NASCAR roared back into the forefront with the Drive4COPD 300 at Daytona International Speedway. The casualties of the final turn of the final lap read like a who's who of NASCAR. Last year's Daytona 500 winner Trevor Bayne, last year's Nationwide series champion Ricky Stenhouse Jr, and last year's Sprint Cup champion Tony Stewart were just three of the illustrious drivers whose day ended just a few second

If the qualifying for the Daytona 500 were over now, Ford would own the front row. Based on the current standings, Carl Edwards (pictured) is the pole sitter and will line up next to Greg Biffle in the #2 spot. Dale Earnhardt Jr., Marcos Ambrose, Casey Mears, Jeff Gordon, Martin Truex Jr., 2011 Nationwide Champion Ricky Stenhouse Jr., last year’s Daytona 500 winner Trevor Bayne, and reigning Sprint Cup Champ Tony Stewart round

2012 Budweiser Shootout

by Ronald A. Rowe February 21st, 2012 | NASCAR, Sprint Cup Series
NASCAR’s 2012 season certainly didn’t take long to get warmed up. We went from zero to awesome in one race. Kyle Busch almost wrecked -– by all measure should have wrecked -– twice in the second stanza of the Budweiser Shootout. Twice he slid toward the infield, car sliding wildly. Twice he somehow managed to right the vehicle and avoid certain disaster. And once –- once is all it took –- he executed a perfect pass with perfect timing to cross the finish line 13/100th of a second ahead of a shocked
