STP 300

by Ronald A. Rowe June 7th, 2011 | NASCAR, Nationwide Series
The end of the STP 300 was strangely familiar to anyone who watched last week's Coca-Cola 600, with a car again running out of gas on the final turn or the final lap. Unlike last week's Sprint Cup race, this week had a happy ending for the driver of that fuel-less car.

Of course that driver, Justin Allgaier, only had a shot because the car that had been in front of him ran out of gas a quarter lap earlier. Carl Edwards had the race won, but he ran out of gas with half a lap to go.

All-Star Race

by Ronald A. Rowe May 26th, 2011 | NASCAR, Racing News, Speeding, Sprint Cup Series
Carl Edwards won a tidy $1.2 million for winning the All-Star Race Saturday night.  In the end it came down to Edwards and Kyle Busch dueling for the lead.  A textbook pit stop on the final scheduled break gave Edwards a slight lead, which he refused to relinquish.

As pretty as Edwards' victory was, his victory celebration was just plain ugly.  He ripped up the front of his car on a non-existent drain.  He can be excused for that lousy bit of driving after putting on a clinic all evening, although the fact that Edwards sounded only half-joking when he

O’Reilly Auto Parts 300

by Ronald A. Rowe April 14th, 2011 | NASCAR, Nationwide Series
How do you stop Kyle Busch from winning a Nationwide Series race? Putting him in an unavoidable accident seems to do the trick. When Tim Schendel blew a tire right in front of Busch, he had nowhere to go. Nowhere but directly into the back of Schendel’s Chevy. No, the O’Reilly Auto Parts 300 was not going to be another jewel in the crown that is Busch’s 2011 season.

Instead, it was another name familiar to Sprint Cup fans. Carl Edwards narrowly held off Brad Keselowski to claim victory. Paul Menard, Joey Logano, and Elliot Sadler filed in behind the

Carl Edwards

by Ronald A. Rowe December 21st, 2010 | NASCAR
Carl Edwards found himself just outside the trio of leaders who were fighting for the Sprint Cup Championship down to the final laps of the last race at Homestead. Although he was without a realistic chance of winning it all at the end, Edwards had a not-too-shabby 2010 season, finishing fourth in the standings and bringing in over $5.7 million in winnings.

If Edwards had no chance of catching the leaders, somebody forgot to tell him. He won the last two races of the season running away. There cannot be anyone involved in NASCAR who was sadder to see 2010

Anatomy of a Feud

by Ronald A. Rowe July 27th, 2010 | NASCAR
Some feuds are manufactured just for TV audiences. Some involve deep, personal issues that are not fully understood by anyone outside the immediate circumstance. And some feuds are just what they seem to be.

Brad Keselowski and Carl Edwards are the Hatfields and McCoys of the NASCAR circuit. As far as I can tell, they were nothing more and nothing less than two guys who happened to compete in the same sport until Talladega 2009. Keselowski, who had at that point never won a Cup race, gave Edward’s car a little nudge – into the fence – on his way
