History 300

by Ronald A. Rowe May 29th, 2012 | NASCAR, Nationwide Series
The end of the History 300 was a little bit like a scene from the 1994 movie Speed. Brad Keselowski was faced with the same decision that perplexed Sandra Bullock's character: Stay on or get off.

Kes (pictured) chose to stay on the track while the rest of the field took a pit stop with 57 laps to go at Charlotte. That decision, coupled with some excellent driving and a little bit of luck, was good enough to earn Keselowski his first Nationwide victory of the season. Denny Hamlin crossed the finish line .84 seconds

Bojangles’ Southern 500

by Ronald A. Rowe May 17th, 2012 | NASCAR, Sprint Cup Series
Jimmie Johnson was in control for much of the Bojangles’ Southern 500Ryan Newman and Kurt Busch’s teams were out of control after the Bojangles’ Southern 500.   It was another race day at Darlington.

Johnson did some clever fuel-saving maneuvers, including shutting down to coast under yellow, in order to keep the #48 car running all the way to the end.  And it was running spectacularly well on the Green-White-Checkered restart to finish the race.  Johnson pulled away from the pack of NASCAR notables that included runners-up Denny Hamlin, Tony Stewart, Kyle Busch, and Martin Truex Jr.

There was a little

Virginia College Savings 250

by Ronald A. Rowe May 3rd, 2012 | NASCAR, Nationwide Series
The ending of Friday night’s Virginia 529 College Savings 250 at Richmond International Raceway was like something that a Hollywood studio might think up. Kurt Busch and Denny Hamlin were turned sideways and sliding side by side as the checkered flag waved, separated by the thinnest of margins -- .062 seconds to be exact.

It was the start of a very good weekend for the Busch Brothers and a poor one for Nationwide drivers who were swept out of the first three spots in the race by Busch, Hamlin, and fellow Sprint Cup driver

Samsung Mobile 500

by Ronald A. Rowe April 17th, 2012 | NASCAR, Sprint Cup Series
It's been exactly 50 races since Greg Biffle last won a Sprint Cup race. That 18-month drought came to an end on Saturday when Biffle (pictured) beat out Jimmie Johnson to claim the checkered flag at the Samsung Mobile 500.

It looked like this was going to be Johnson's night. He looked like the best driver with the fastest car in the second half of the race and led 156 laps. But the lap he didn't lead- - the last lap -- was the one that really counted. Johnson and Biffle were so far

Melee at Martinsville

by Ronald A. Rowe April 3rd, 2012 | NASCAR, Sprint Cup Series
They're calling it the Melee at Martinsville. And... that's a pretty good description of what happened in the final minutes of the Goody's Fast Relief 500. Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson were all set to contend for the checkered flag. Dale Earnhardt Jr. was right behind. Somebody was going to claim a victor for Hendrick Motorsports. It was just a matter of who.

Then IT happened. There seems to be a fair amount of disagreement about what exactly the IT was
